Cuando Richie Furst (Justin Timberlake) pierde el dinero que tenía destinado para su educación en un juego de poker online, desesperado por recuperarlo localiza al dueño del sitio Ivan Block (Ben Affleck) y éste le ofrece convertirse en su aprendiz para recuperar su dinero. Su relación es tensa, pero no es tiempo de discutir: un agente del FBI espera, paciente que Ritchie se canse de su jefe y lo delate.
